Avondale Amateur Concludes with High Drama
A large crowd was on hand to witness some excellent golf throughout the day and thrilling finishes to both the Avondale Bowl and the Avondale Medal.
Kirsten Rugdeley held on despite some late bogies to claim a one shot victory over Justice Bosio. Rudgeley stood on the 17th tee with a 3 shot lead but managed to find the bushes with her drive. She was forced to take a penalty shot, before an excellent approach shot helped salvage a bogey. Rudgeley then found the green side bunker with her second shot on 18 and another bogey was enough to secure victory.
New Zealander Jayden Ford has won the Avondale Medal after a high class 3 way playoff. Ford, Andrew Richards and Jasper Stubbs were all locked up at 6 under par after the 72 holes. Ford had 2 birdies in the 3 hole playoff which was enough to lift the trophy. The 18 year old had not been to Avondale before this week and was delighted with his victory.
Amongst the most pleasing performances from Avondale players this week was Scholarship player Robyn Keen, finishing in 16th place in the Bowl.
Jye Pickin, Will Moody and Riley Millers all finished in the top 10 in the Medal.
