Bert Cornish, Club President from 1971-1976, was instrumental in the establishment of Avondale’s dam, and the rezoning, subsequent subdivision and sale of land in 1989. Bert was made an Honorary Life Member of Avondale in1979.
The Bert Cornish Trophy commenced in 2010 as a stroke event and is awarded to the best nett score of the day.
